AGE OF THE PARTICIPANTS:
Boys and girls, from 11 to 18 years old will be a good fit for the Volleyball Program
and the Homestay Programs are open to participants from 12 years old.
At the Volleyball Camp players are organized by group age and levels.
At the Spanish classes, students are also placed with the right group according to their level of Spanish.

MORE ABOUT THE HOST FAMILY ACCOMMODATION: All our nice Spanish host fmailies have been carefully selected. We know all of them personally and most of them have been working with us, taking care of our homestay program, for several years. All the host families are supervised by the school and the SpainBcn Directors. Many of them are personal friends and relatives.
Our host families are well educated and polite people that will offer a warm and kind envoirement to the student.
Daily breakfast and dinner are with the host family. Laundry (1 or 2 per week) is included. Our host families will offer a warm envoirement and take good care of our students. According to your preferences students can be placed alone or with 1 or 2 more students at the same host family accommodation. We always try to place the students with family with children or according to the students' preferences. There are only a few Spanish host families that can accommodate 3 or 4 students at the same time. All our host families have young children who are also attending the sport summer camps together with our students.
Most of the host families live short walking distance from the School and always in the center of the city in some of the most safe parts and nice and residential areas. All participants of the Youth Summer Programs have a curfew (11:30 pm) that must be respected. The host families help us with the students' supervision.

CURFEW: This program has a curfew for all participants. Especially those who are younger in the group can not go out after the curfew and this rule will be stricly enforced by the school and the host family. There are some activities that will be organized at night with the school or with the host family. The school and the host family can not supevise those students that go out at night.
** Those parents or guardians who want to permit their children to go out after the curfew have to send to the school a formal permission slip before the student can go out. Some of our host families do not want this situation. In that case, the School may have the option of moving the student with a different host family.

CLOTHES TO BRING: Summer is very warm in Barcelona, students should bring summer clothes. Participants have to bring just their spring and summer clothes, casual wear: in June and July temperature can be between 24º and 29º Celsius (68 and 78 Farenheit), hot during the day and warm during the night. Remember to bring the swimming suit, towel and sunscream for the beach days.
The host families provide the student/s with any towels, sheets and pilows needed.
Students have at SpainBCN school any material they need for the Spanish lessons and all information about the city.
It's not necessary to bring any first aid medicine (except in the case the student needs anything special).
If you have a question regarding to bring any special item, please ask us.

DOCUMENTATION AND SHOTS: You will need a current passport to be in Europe (or just your identification if you are an European citizen).
For United States and Canada: No visa is required for this period in Spain .
Participants from other countries: Please check with the Spanish Embassy or Consulate in your country.
Check with your doctor to see what shots you might want to consider. None are required.
We always recommend keeping your tetanus booster current.

DO I NEED A MEDICAL INSURANCE?: Those students who are from the European Union won't need any special medical insurance as it will work the same that works in their countries.
For those participants from a non European Union country a trip insurance is recommended.
These participants (from a non European Union country) will have to have an insurance that covers them while traveling in Europe in case they want to reduce any possible expenses from any medical assistence they may need while in Spain. If that is your case, a travel insurance is an essential purchase on any overseas trip.

UPON ARRIVAL AT THE BARCELONA AIRPORT... The name and description and contact phone of the person waiting for you at the airport will be provided before your arrival date in Barcelona. Please contact us to get this information in case your arrival date come close and you have not received this information. Thank you!
We are in constant communication with airline flight arrival information. In case the flight arrives earlier or later than the scheduled arrival time we will be there when the plane arrives at Barcelona.
In the rare case when a student may miss a connection enroute to Barcelona SpainBcn-Programs will make sure someone is at the airport when the student arrives.  In any case, the student is to stay near the entrance of the reception area until the SpainBcn representative arrives.  The person from SpainBcn-Programs that meets the student at the airport will accompany him or her to the host family accommodation and will introduce the student to the family, making sure the student/s feel comfortable with the family and his/her accommodation.

FIRST DAY OF PROGRAM: We will pick you up at your accommodation to accompany you to the school or to the Sport Camp (acording to your program). Some host families will also accompany the student to the school or will accompany the students to the meeting point with the teacher/s or coordinator/s. Most of our host families live in the same area of the school between 5 to 20 minutes walking distance from the school. This is also the central area of the city, with wide sidewalks and lots of shops. In any case, you will be picked up in the morning and accompany back to your accommodation in the afternoon until you know well your way back home.

The first day at SpainBcn School students will receive a SpainBcn-Programs "school bag" to use during your program with maps and directions and other information they need: phone numbers and addresses of the school, of the host family and of other students/friends also in Barcelona.

POCKET/SPENDING MONEY: We suggest to bring around 90 euros per week for lunch (if needed) or for other minor expenses -approximately 10 or 12 euros per day-.

Older students have lucn outside in theschool area at their won cost. Monday through Thrusday. There are many places with all types of foods and for all budgets withing few minutes walking distance from in the area. A complete menu (with 3 courses, bread and drink) will cost 9 euros and more simple meals (1 course, bread and drink) 5 euros. All type of sandwiches + drink can also be around 5 euros. Students have to stay in the school area and be back at school at 3:30 pm. for the afternoon cultural activity.
Lunch on Friday and Saturdays: The school will prepare a package-lunch or a picnic (big sandwich and drink) for all students on Fridays (beach day) and Saturdays (excursion day). This is included in your program.

PHONE CALLS WHILE YOU ARE IN SPAIN: Long distance phone calls are expensive here so participants are normally not permitted to make long-distance phone calls directly from their host family's phone or from the School phone. They have to use a phone card to make those calls. However students' parents may call the participants at the accommodation at specific times or at school, during the day. It is also customary to keep calls brief to not interrup to much the family's life. Student can use any public or private phones with the pre-paid cards (which are very cheap and available in many stores in the city).

If you want to have your own cellular phone while in Barcelona, we suggest to buy here a "cheap" cellular phone.
There are always good deals that you can take advantage and our teachers or coordinators will accompany you to the nearby store to help you out. For less than 40 euros you have a "non expensive" phone that will include some pre-paid calls (local) and where your family can reach you while you are in Barcelona.
Host families have internet at home so students can use their e-mails. They can also use the internet at School.

DO I NEED A MEDiCAL INSURANCE: Those students who are from the European Union won't need any special medical insurance as it will work the same that works in their countries. Those participants from a non European Union country will have to have insurance that covers them while traveling in Europe in case they want to reduce any possible expenses from any medical assistence they may need while in Spain. So, a travel insurance is an essential purchase on any overseas trip.
